When referring to a laminate bench top,
work top, or counter top, you are generally referring to a product which is
made by taking high density particle board and bonding a laminate covering over
the particle board. The bottom side of the laminate is coated with resin which
provides a barrier to moisture. This process is done with a heated press which
bonds all of the materials together to make a hard and durable work surface.
Laminated counter tops can be found in
several different thickness options as well as many different lengths and
widths. You can usually find laminate tops which will fit into just about any
budget and you can get them in designs which look realistic and natural. Some
people might prefer the look of marble while others will prefer wood or stone.
Laminate is very versatile in design and comes in a wide variety of colors.
Laminate work tops are very rugged and
durable and are chosen more often than other types of work tops or counter
tops. They are fairly inexpensive but yet they can increase the look and value
of your home. They are inexpensive to repair and can easily last for thirty
years and more. The surface is water resistant and easy to clean. Because the
surface is not porous there is no bacterial build up on the surface if cleaned
properly. Laminate maintains its surface shine and is suitable for kitchens,
bathrooms, desk tops, work benches, and much more.
Laminate work tops can be practical as well
as elegant which offers the consumer a combination of quality and value. It is
fairly easy to maintain by following a few easy steps. Clean up spills as soon
as possible to prevent any type of moisture from getting into the laminated
core. Laminate can withstand temperature which exceed 100 degrees so hot cups
or spilled boiling water will not usually cause any damage. It is not
recommended that you set hot kitchen utensils or hot irons directly onto the
surface. You can protect the surface by using pads or some other material which
is heat resistant.
Laminate work tops are very scratch
resistant and very durable but it is advised that you use a cutting board when
working with food. The key word here is resistant, laminate is not scratch
proof. Cleaning is fairly easy using water and a mild detergent. You will want
to stay away from abrasive cleaners since the possibility is there to scratch
the surface. Laminate will usually stand up to the strength of bleach but once
again this needs to be wiped up as soon as possible.
