Kitchen cabinets to suit your taste

The kitchen is the most important work-room of the house; the homemaker spends a large portion of the day in this room, so it should be made to suit all practical purposes.  Fitting in the kitchen appliances with the regular kitchen furniture like the kitchen sink and the oven, the kitchen cabinets need to be planned well and they need to be distributed in the kitchen according to the amount of space that is available.

There are different shapes and types of kitchens and the cabinets can be put in single row, in a corner or L-shape or below kitchen islands, depending on the size of the kitchen. So the design of the kitchen is not only dependent on the room size but also on the appliances in the room.  The cabinets can be built around the kitchen gadgets to accommodate as many as possible.  This will determine the size and shape of the cabinets as well.

Try and utilize all the space in the kitchen for the cabinets, like using up corners, or U-shaped walls.  Cabinets with straight edges are by far the most practical and have the most storage space, but a corner cabinet can be installed with a rotating shelf which could contain unbreakable kitchen crockery, packing material or even kitchen cloths and dusters.

If the kitchen is large, double doors can be used on the top cabinets. Or if the contents of the cabinet are large like big baking dishes or fry-pans, a double door is necessary.  But if the room is narrow, single doors are preferable, as it takes up less space when opened and looks neat. Nicely framed doors in the kitchen cabinets give them a traditional look other than just panel fronts.  Even drawer fronts can be framed or paneled.

Drawers, whether paneled or framed should not be too big, the drawer slides should be of excellent quality.  The compartments in drawers or metal racks in the drawers and kitchen cabinets should be of durable material, preferably stainless steel, as it is rust-proof.  The accessories for the drawers and cabinets should all be high quality, otherwise hinges, knobs or drawer slides tend to rust, break and get bent.  The hinges used should be the self-closing metal hinges which are durable. Nowadays the all-wood drawer system is popular in which a solid wood drawer box is made.  There are smooth, epoxy-coated metal drawer glide systems installed to ensure easy and quiet operation. Fine compartments can be made in the drawers for the cutlery or for any other sorting that is required in a drawer.

Looking at the storage capacity that you can create for your kitchen,   plan the shelves of the cabinets according to the objects. One shelf should cater to the size of bottles, or another one can hold smaller gadgets like a toaster or a coffee machine.  Glass shelves with glass paneling on one cabinet can entail some handsome crockery.  So the thickness of the shelves can vary according to the weight that it has to bear, which could be a saving on your budget.
